I became a Rob Hill Foundation Workshop Leader for Hastings & St Leonards, June 2019. I feel incredibly privileged to be able to share the knowledge that helped me escape my own addictions.
Running these workshops has opened a whole new world for me, making many new connections along the way. It is very rewarding to see others recover and rebuild their lives and this inspires me to continue.
I first met Chris Hill in 2016 when he guided me through his Beat Addiction Programme and completely changed my life.
I had been addicted to opiates, amphetamines and tobacco for 10 years, and regardless of the amount of times I put myself through physical withdrawals, I was unable to achieve abstinence due to the lack of understanding about the mind and how addiction works. The programme changed my life over-night – it is so much more than just freedom from addiction. I finally experienced inner peace with freedom of mind that enabled me to live a better life all round, a life that was once restricted by addiction to substances, behaviours, beliefs and thought patterns.
When I moved to St Leonards from Sidcup, I knew nobody and was very isolated from the outside world for quite some time. I used this same self-talk method to help me adjust to my new life. The programme provides self-management tools for managing thought processes, (which is why it is so much more than dealing with addiction). I knew that how I felt when I arrived would improve as my brain rewired and, one thought at a time, I adapted to my surroundings and community, eventually creating a good life for myself and my family.
Since becoming a workshop leader, I have helped people to overcome addictions to smoking, alcohol, recreational drugs, caffeine, sugar, negative thinking, bulimia, and more. Each person’s situation is different, but the common denominator is the same – it’s all in the mind. And the mind can be reprogrammed. I treat each person with the utmost compassion which, in turn, enables them to see themselves differently and start to practise self-kindness.
It is my passion and purpose now to help others, the same way I was helped and I’m pleased to say I am now trained as a Beat My Addictions Advanced Trainer as well, which means I can work with people one-to-one effectively, so if you would like to use the programme to deal with any addiction, habit or behaviour as well as anxiety, stress and depression – please get in touch.
Here are some testimonials from people I have helped:
Lea from Bexhill
“I have fibromyalgia and went along to the first workshop full of doubt that I could ever give up my biscuit dunking habit. I was so wrong – my brain is now rewired! No more sugary snacks for me and this is my first year without eating birthday cake. I didn’t even miss it. It feels fantastic to be in control and not have any cravings.”
Pippa from Ore
“I initially attended the group for help with smoking and overeating. What I learned there was truly mind-blowing. The information I learned was something I had never even considered or heard of before in this way. I went home and read the programme a couple of times over and started my withdrawal a few days later. I was flabbergasted at how incredible the changes within me were just from quitting smoking and stopping sugary foods. Mental clarity, inner peace, happiness and joy restored! It’s amazing and I highly recommend it.
Helena from Hastings
“I used the programme to understand negative thought processes, and extreme PTSD responses, that resulted in me replaying scenarios over and over in my head. I found this technique very helpful in halting these processes.”
