School Sessions

I have worked with high schools to deliver addiction awareness sessions (all year groups) and with primary schools to tell my addiction story, talk about social media, gaming and how addiction starts; but also focusing on supporting Year 6 pupils preparing to leave junior school and start high school. We look at issues such as peer pressure and anxiety around starting Year 7.

My sessions are very flexible and can be adapted to specific identified issues. On the whole I deal with raising awareness about addictive life-styles including social addictions and managing anxiety and stress.

I’ve worked with children of all ages, dealing with the usual types of anxiety, right through to phobias, eating disorders and conditions such as selective mutism. I deliver my learning to young people through youth groups and I’m in the process of working with The Prince’s Trust to train front line staff to reach the 60,000 young people the organisation supports.
The school sessions conducted so far on addiction awareness and managing anxiety, have been extremely successful. Please watch this short video on this page. This was taken at Queensmead School in Middlesex, where I delivered five sessions to 1500 children in total (all year groups).

The children have so far responded extremely well to these subjects in particular:

  • My personal story around addiction
  • Understanding of the subconscious mind
  • How addiction takes hold
  • The real-life effects of smoking weed
  • How to manage peer pressure when it comes to refusing substances
  • Progression through addiction i.e. starts with one, leads to others
  • How to deal with feelings of anxiety and stress

In terms of addiction, I can adapt my talks according to the year group and issues identified by the school. The talk can include:

  • Smoking
  • Drinking alcohol
  • Taking Drugs
  • Social media addiction
  • Gaming
  • Sugar addiction
  • Anxiety & Stress
  • Fear of change
There is also flexibility to run workshops for parents who may be concerned about gaming, social media, sugar consumption / obesity, smoking weed etc.
